A short story may reveal a long journey...

What are Motor Skills?

Motor skills are the movements and tasks we perform every day which enable movement with a certain outcome. Fine motor skills are those which utilize smaller muscles for instance in the hand and the ability to use a fork.

These movements require the ability to feel, think, and plan the outcome. For instance, the picture shows kids performing a handstand on a couch next to a window. They must implement control and awareness not to put their foot through the window.

Gross Motor Skills are the movements of the big muscles while fine motor skills are those of smaller muscles in hands, wrists, etc.

Dyspraxia is commonly referred to as a neurological disorder associated with the development motor coordination in children.
