My Story: Diane Orsini-Tarkman, OTR/L

Diane Orsini-Tarkman OTR/L.jpeg

Diane Orsini-Tarkman, OTR/L is one of the few Pediatric Occupational Therapy practices to maintain sole ownership with a full, private facility in Petaluma serving Sonoma, Marin, and Napa Counties.

Diane became interested in pediatric occupational therapy during a high school allied health class that explored medical occupations. She became excited and fascinated by the creativity of using occupations to promote healing, health and wellness. This prompted  Diane to volunteer at Stanford Children's Hospital. She became hooked on helping children and never looked back.

In college Diane was introduced to Sensory Integration and Dr. A. Jean Ayres’ inspiring work with children who had fear of movement and other sensory processing difficulties. Diane did not skip a beat, upon college graduation, she quickly took on additional training to become a Pediatric Occupational therapist career. Developing a keen understanding into sensory integration processing difficulties, visual processing difficulties, the art of therapy and understanding children with autism has led Diane to become a renown expert in her field.

As present day techniques and discoveries of the mind evolve in psychology and medical science, Diane is a proponent of advanced education, training, and methodologies. She continues 30 years later.

Diane volunteers as a coach for Marin General’s Matter of Balance Program and participates in numerous philanthropic activities to aid the health, development and well-being of children.

I believe...

- My clients should feel good about who they are.

- If we all wanted, thought and did the exact same thing, the world would be a boring place.

- Every human is a creator.

- Every child needs to be a child.

- Silliness is okay.

- Be a kid. We are adults the majority of our lifetime.

- We need to play as an adult too.

- We need to pick what we do based on our interests and strengths as an adult.

- We don’t pick our careers on what was hard for us in school.

-There is hope for every child.

Every Child is Unique

Petaluma OT - Orsini.jpeg

Every child is unique. So is Diane. Her methods are based on the individual characteristics of each child, their environment, physical abilities, and much more. Her intuition with each child is an uncanny sense you won't find out there in all pediatric occupational practices. It's second nature. On the other hand, that second nature may redirect you to services more appropriate for your child.
