What is Asperger's Syndrome?

Asperger syndrome also known as; Asperger disorder (AD), Asperger's, schizoid disorder of childhood, autistic psychopathy, high functioning autism. 

 

Aspergers Syndrome was named after Austrian pediatrician Dr. Hans Asperger. Dr. Asperger notice that a group of boys he treated all had similar characteristics. Out of the four boy group they all had a lack of empathy, inability to make friends, engaged in one sided communication, were overly obsessed in their own special interests and finally, they were all clumsy. 

 

As a spectrum of Autism, Asperger’s is a highly functioning autism. The onset age is usually around two and 5x more common in boys. These children tend to like routines and rules. Asperger’s affects 2.5 children out of 1,000 Autism Disorders. To diagnose Asperger’s Syndrome the child must be observed and evaluated.

 

Interesting facts about Aspergers: Dr. Temple Garden has Aspergers and it’s been noted that others such as Einstein, Mozart, Jefferson, and Ben Franklin may have had Aspergers.
